South Street is an Arts Centre presenting a diverse range of performing arts from both the professional and community sectors. The professional programme attracts the very best new and established names in fringe theatre, comedy, music, dance and live literature.

South Street is home to award winning theatre company RedCape Theatre (Fringe First & Total Award winners for 'The Idiot Colony'), as well as Reading Youth Theatre and Poet's Cafe. South Street is also proud to be involved in many projects, past and present, aimed at developing performing arts both locally, regionally and nationally. These have included: playwright development programme Hydroponic, New Opportunities Fund After Schools Clubs, Asian Arts Week / Dhoom Damarka, Berkshire Venues Consortium, roots/round/about World Music Consortium and an Arts Council Funded Theatre residency scheme, as well as being a key contributer to Reading Comedy Festival and Black History Month celebrations.
