Festive Overture Op.96

TCHAIKOVSKY
Piano Concerto No.1 in Bb minor Op.23

SHOSTAKOVICH
Symphony No.5 in D minor Op.47

It is generally agreed that Dmitri Shostakovich is one of the titans of 20th Century music and certainly the greatest symphonist of his time. The depth and range of his music is truly Beethovenian and we are very fortunate to have the composer's son, Maxim Shostakovich, visiting The Hexagon to conduct the colossal Symphony No.5. The depth of the orchestration, the elemental rhythmic patterns and the sheer range of the musical architecture weill be revealed in this performance.

In the first half, Tchaikovsky's ever popular First Piano Concerto will be performed by the hugely talented young Russian pianist Natasha Paremski.
